Design my Samsonite: Winning designs

A few weeks ago we posted an article about the Design my Samsonite contest.
Well, we now have an update for you, since the competition has ended. Samsonite announced the winners!

Let us first start with the Belgian winner (Belgian pride, of course!). The national winner of Belgium is Kevin Caers. Congratulations to him!

The international winners are two ladies. One is from Russia and the other one from Germany.
Tanya Padalka from Russia won with her vision of the New York skyline, printed on a Cosmolite suitcase. The Firelite suitcase of Hannah Küppers has a cool, vivid-coloured world map on it.

The winners both won €3000 to make a trip to New York and Cape Town, and a set of limited edition suitcases, both fit with the new Curv Technology (stronger and lighter then ever!). Adam Lamkharbech won the People's Choice Award for receiving the most online votes.

Check out the pictures below and let us know your opinion about the winning designs!

PFW: Paul & Joe

While we were visiting Paris men's fashion week last June, we were suddenly taken on a fantasy cruise that sailed from Le Havre to Madagascar. Paul & Joe surprised us with a stunning collection in a beautiful setting.

Designer Sophie Albou-Melchaly managed to combine pieces from two very different styles into just one collection. She did a wonderful job: it turned out to be a charming collection that is very bold and exiting, yet totally wearable and whimsy. That's what Paul & Joe is all about!

On the one hand, we saw pieces that (we believe) are typical Paul & Joe: "classic sailor chic."  ;-) Navy colours with white and red accents, anchors, fish and sea horses prints, beautiful knits,...
On the other hand, they made this stunning tropical print, with tigers and giraffe peaking through bright-coloured foliage. In other words, prints were key for this collection.

Paul & Joe also chose to make some sartorial pieces, like the fabulous slim fit houndstooth suit, pictured down low. Don't you just love it?!

Finally, the brand collaborated with a new up and coming brand for the swimwear of this collection. They opted for Piscine Municipale, a brand by two best friends Adrian and David. Each piece of swimwear is decorated with a discreet cheetah head (the brand’s logo) embroidered and a tiny tricolored flag for the French touch. Check out the pieces of Piscine Municipale down below!

PFW: Jean Paul Gaultier

Attending the Jean Paul Gaultier presentation was a real honour for us. We've been fans of his designs for years now and since it's very difficult to lay your hands on a creation of this genious in Belgium, this presentation was our equivalent of fashion heaven.

JPG likes to shock with his collections. Although the new SS14 collection has some gender-bending aspects in it, it seems he had toned down the craziness a little bit.

The presentation took place in the beautiful Jean Paul Gaultier building. Again, no actual runway show this year. But we feel that this presentation, with models walking around in the room and posing for you, probably did more justice to the clothes.

The designer worked with a lot of prints: bricks and tiles, foral,... And of course some androgynous looks: elongated shirts paired with a light jacket and tight pants or leggings, or a fishnet over the basic blazer, all topped off with sandals.

Enjoy our pictures!

Scotch & Soda: Amsterdam Couture

Some of you may already know Scotch & Soda, but for our readers who don't: here is a little preview ;-) !

This Amsterdam-based fashion company is doing really well the last couple of years: a fresh start with a new concept, beautiful designs and a global expansion. The popularity of the brand grew together with our love for the clothes. The impeccable taste of the masterminds behind S&S, Eric Bijlsma, Joep Krouwels and Patrick Munsters, will bring this brand to higher levels.

Scotch & Soda stands for quality at affordable prices. We believe the brand has to offer a little something for everyone. In other words: both preppy guys and hipsters are welcome ;-) If you don't believe us, see it for yourself on the website of their official webstore.

To give you a better idea, take a look at our pictures below. Christophe is wearing a blue, lightweight shirt with acid washed details (breast pocket and elbow patches). The perfect shirt for a day at the beach, don't you agree?

Let us know what you think about Scotch & Soda and about the shirt in particular ;-)

GIVE AWAY: The Rockrebel / Classic & Contemporary Kit GIVE AWAY

Update: this give-away has ended.

A collaboration always sounds promising. Doing them is quite popular nowadays and sometimes it can lead to something spectacular. Like this one.
Sergei Sviatchenko, the Danish artist and blogger behind Close Up and Private, collaborated with Premium by Jack & Jones. He gives the modern man a well needed makeover with his new, limited edition capsule collection for , "The Rockrebel / Classic & Contemporary Kit".
Ignoring the cliché of ripped jeans, T-shirt and a leather biker jacket we tend to think of when we imagine a fashionable rock star, Sviatchenko provides a modern revolt into style. The rocker look he channelled is inspired by the mid-60s British Invasion-era, a period that revolutionised menswear.
This kit is a readymade rocker wardrobe, including a tab collar shirt in understated Tattersall check, navy blue wool trousers, a green full-knit cardigan, a brown leather belt, a knit tie in navy blue, a British Military inspired repp tie and ribbed socks.

These 7 items are like a collage of Sergei - all the pieces work well both individually and combined. It's a totally wearable and affordable kit - the whole outfit is worth 400 euros. Jack & Jones insisted on keeping the price low, but also delivering a high quality product.

The Kit is now for sale on the Jack & Jones website. The good news is that you can WIN it here! ;-)
