‘Kill the lights and burn some human energy!’

This is the new slogan from the Swedish fashion company Björn Borg, used for the launch of glow in the dark underwear, part of their SS12 collection. Björn Borg got inspired to design GITD underwear because of the answers in a public poll, along with a general ecological trend. The collection is sexy and ecological both at the same time.
Men Trend thinks it’s very clever to respond to the human needs and what the Average Joe is ‘worrying’ about. Mix it with fashion and you can bring it to your audition in a playful way to attract the attention to our environment – and how we affect it. The goal of this collection is that we have to wonder about what we can do in our everyday lives to make the world a better place.

The Björn Borg SS12 Underwear collection will be available at Björn Borg stores, selected retailers and in the Björn Borg web shop as of February 2012. To say it like Mr. Borg: “The night time just got some more fun time. Sexy, Sexy, Boom Boom. Feels good JA!”

Todd Lynn: Dress up like a rockstar!

In his early years, Todd Lynn designed behind the scenes for the music industry’s elite. He is “Rock and Roll’s best kept secret”. He worked with Bono, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Marilyn Manson, Courtney Love and many others. But now is it time for him to take centre stage.

Todd Lynn started his own brand in 2006. He presented his first menswear collection at London Fashion Week to press and buyers in September 2006. He uses a lot of basic colors like black, white and blue. When you take a look at his clothes, you can notice it is always perfectly tailored. He also uses a lot of fur in his collections. His work embodies the easy, dark and beautiful rock and roll cool. That's probably the main reason why Men Trend fell in love with his clothes: the rugged, yet elegant look really spoke to us. We've never seen anything like it!
First only a select group of people bought his clothes, but now the whole wide world can access the Todd Lynn collections. Many pop artists have worn his clothes in their music videos, like Janet Jackson and Beyoncé.
The style conscious and the Rock and Roll fan alike can get their hands on the goods at the world’s top fashion retailers, and also at Net-a-Porter.

Below you can find a selection we made of our favorite outfits by Todd Lynn through the years.

Dolce & Gabanna in Berlin

Dolce & Gabbana opened its first flagship store in Berlin.
The store is located on Kurfürstendamm 187. It’s really big and has 2 floors.
The entire set-up of the collections is designed to enhance the Dolce & Gabbana world, where clothing and accessories blend with the various pieces of furniture typical of the lifestyle brand: basalt, painted black, burgundy carpets, velvet, brocade and baroque chandeliers. Men Trend loves the luscious, exuberant and luxurious look of Dolce stores. This new one is definitely a classic example of that.
The men’s collection as well as the women’s collection are available in the store.
It’s really worth visiting! Berlin is also on our wish list: we would love to visit the city and go shopping!

Belgian’s finest: 2. Dries van Noten

Dries Van Noten presented his FW ’12-’13 collection in Paris at Fashion Week, earlier this year. He’s a Belgian designer, who studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and graduated in the early Eighties. He’s also a member of the ‘Antwerp Six’, therefore he is one of the most influential designers Belgium (or even the whole world for that matter) has ever seen. It would be a mistake not to write about this brilliant designer and his astonishing collection.
Men Trend spotted prints in hyper-colored suits and jackets. It was a psychedelic experience for all of us. As artists were painting a white wall, the men strutted down the bare runway in some of the most colorful patterned jackets. The man himself described the collection as a mix of Oscar Wilde and Frank Zappa. It was decidedly so, as the colorful suits were also replaced by ones in finer fabrics like velvet. Aesthetics were taken from Dutch artist Gijs Frieling and calligraphy from the words of Wilde. The music choice was very special but fits perfectly with the atmosphere he created.
We liked it very much. It’s a very daring collection, with bold silhouettes and surrealistic patterns in pastel colors. In other words, nothing like we’ve ever seen before, yet with a very clear ‘Van Noten’ stamp on it. It is a really nice collection. The more classic pieces have a modern cut, which makes the tailoring look even more beautiful.
A successful show if you ask Men Trend.

Vintage Shop: Dress Code NY

We received an e-mail from a nice guy named Jamal. He told us that our blog is pretty awesome and that we keep our content organized and updated and it has a cool design, development etc. We really appreciate such compliments! He also told us that he runs a website himself, an online vintage shop that sells men’s and women’s vintage pieces.
The name of his site is Dress Code NY. Off course Men Trend checked it out and we really liked it, so we decided to make an article about this website! Among the choices for men are: military jackets, fun sweaters and funky vintage prints. At the moment he even offers a YSL tie (why doesn’t he keep that for himself for heaven’s sake?!)

We contacted Jamal and asked him a few questions to get to know him and his online vintage shop. He was born and raised in Maryland, but moved to New York City to study.
To quote him: ‘This site is about finding one of kind vintage pieces but mixing and matching them with modern pieces that are in your closet. The point is to be versatile with clothing. After interning at several fashion companies I realized that these clothes are really cool, but they have something in common THEY ALL LOOK THE SAME. Dress code is exclusivity. I added a button or brooch on a shirt to give it a little extra and that’s what makes a difference.’
Jamal really want to tell a story with his site: vintage must be fun and that’s what he want to portray in the clip on the homepage. He really wants to become the next Nick Wooster, who is his biggest example.
He chose this name for the website because “your personal style is your dress code, that’s how people identify you.”

Now for the practical stuff. Shipping costs are by weight, but if you spend over a 100 dollar shipping is free. Jamal currently ships only to the US, but soon international shipping will be available too, so we all can buy some vintage pieces there.
